Recap of 2012 goals and goals for 2013

With the new year it is time for some new goals. Here is quick break down on how successful I was this last year and what my new goals for 2013 are.

Goals for 2012:

Run 2000 miles. That is approximately 41 miles per week. This is a VERY lofty goal. I am going to trust Daily Mile to keep me on track. The Garmin will be getting a workout!

Um, that didn't happen. I was even on track to not just run 2000 miles, but break it. Even to this day I feel like this goal jinxed my entire running year! As of yesterday my grand total was 1209 miles.

Finally get that six pack of abs! Jillian M: you and I will become great friends over the next 12 months.

Ha! This didn't happen either. However, I am much closer to this then I was a year ago. It might be feasible to accomplish this goal in 2013. Jillian and I did not become friends. Her videos were too repetitive and annoying for me. I need diversity in my core work! I was able to complete a 5:15 plank a couple of days ago which was a huge milestone for me.

PR in every distance (5K, 10K, 1/2 marathon and marathon).

5K- PR’d! My PR of 20:21 was from February at Partner’s in Pain
5 mile- PR of 33:12 was from the Rapid Rabbit in March
10K- Didn’t run this distance in 2012
12K- PR’d! I ran the Bloomsday 12K six days post Eugene in 54:18.
½ marathon- PR’d! My PR of 1:33 was at the Houston ½ Marathon in January. I think that Desi Davila rubbed off some of her speed on me for this race.
Marathon- No PR :/. I wasn’t that far off, I just needed to run 4 minutes faster.

Not too shabby for only having 4 months of training during the year of which I was seriously injured and didn’t even know it.

Be more diligent in lifting weights on my own, even if it is only once a week.

This is where I knocked it out of the ball park!!!! I probably wouldn’t have been so successful at this, but when you are injured and can’t run you tend to try out new things. Not only did I fall in love with lifting weights on my own 2-3 days a week, but I joined Farmgirlfit in October. I didn’t mind lifting on my own, but I tend to get distracted and I love how going to Farmgirlfit holds me accountable and really pushes me to test my limits. Since starting in October I have never had the same workout. Love it!

My goals for 2013:

Keeping it simple again, but adding some personal goals for the new year too. Hopefully none of these goals jinx the next 12 months for me.

Run 2000 miles. I am going to take another crack at this goal. I know that I am capable of it, I just need to stay healthy and in one piece.

Bike 1000 miles. This seems like a lot of miles, however, I think I can do it. I don’t really know what I am capable of so I am just going to go for it! If not at least I tried! Mr. Healthy Diva bought me a wireless bike computer that I can use on my spin bike so I will include those miles in my tally. Spinning counts, right? It might be another couple of months before I can take my new bike outside so spinning will have to suffice.

Train for at least 1 triathlon. This I am very excited about! I still haven’t selected one, but luckily there is a lot that take place in Spokane. I might even do one in Seattle with my college bestie Adrienne! I think she just wants to do a triathlon with me so that she can kick my bum in the swim.

Compete in a crossfit competition or two or three. I know that marathon training will have to come first and I will only be able to go to Farmgirlfit two times a week, but I love the aspect of it. I already have registered for a competition that will take place on January 13th.

Get my marathon PR that I have been dreaming about all year. I don't even care if it is by 1 second. I want that PR.

Continue my progress on the elusive six pack. I think that I am getting closer, but it has been hard work! I want to continue adding 15-20 minutes of core work into my routine at least 5 days a week.

Have a professional revamp of Healthy Diva and sign up for self hosting. I have already started to collect estimates on this fun project. I can’t wait to see a new look for Healthy Diva!

Once a month have a date night that doesn't include just a quick dinner at Qdoba.

Read at least a book a month.

Really make a dent in paying of our debt. I would like to have my credit card paid off by this summer. With that I would also like to save more $$$ so that we can finally move into our dream home.

Questions for you:
How did you fare in accomplishing your 2012 goals?
Did you set any goals for 2013? What are some of your goals?

  11. I too want a blog upgrade. I have looked into self hosting as well. I have no idea what a "good deal" is. Looking forward to seeing you nail your goals. You can do it.

    1. I don't know what a good deal is either! I am thinking about having a marketing firm in Spokane do my redesign. They are family friends and have shown in interest in online projects. Not sure what they would charge. I did get one quote and it was a bit pricey for me at the moment. The minimum cost to move to wordpress and have some new graphics was $800 per that quote. That is not in my budget right now. :/

    1. It makes me giddy! Of course I have to finish my marathon training first. My coach doesn't want me focusing on a bunch of different things right now. I need to get through Windermere and then I can train for my triathlon.

  15. You've got a great set of goals. Very challenging. I just started using Daily Mile this year and I love the way it adds everything up for me. I'd love to follow your training on it. Have you tried RandomAbs.com? It has been a great ab routine for me. (There's a review of it on the Sole Sisters blog.) Wishing you the best in your fitness and personal goals this year!

    1. Thanks Carissa. I love a good challenge! I hope that I can keep myself on track and that my goals are realistic enough.

I like using Daily Mile too because it forces me to log my workouts. I just started to log my crossfit workouts a couple of months ago. I wish that I would have utilized Daily Mile more of the summer when I was only biking. It would have been interesting to see how many miles I actually biked.

I have heard of randomabs.com, but I have never checked it out. I should do that!

  17. GREAT goals and I'm certain you will work your hardest to achieve them. Can't wait to hear bout your first crossfit competition! I've been curious about self hosting as well, if you have any recommendations for where to get a quote send them my way.

    1. I will let you know what kinds of quotes I can come up with. I have no idea what the total cost will be. My first quote was $800 for a total redesign and move from blogger to wordpress. I am assuming a self hosting site would also be an additional $20-30 a month. Whatever info I find I will pass along.

I am super nervouse for the crossfit competition! I hope that I don't wimp out! It is on January 13th. EEEEK.

  18. For as much downtime as you had, you did an amazing job this year! And look at you considering a Crossfit competition. Pretty cool! I have no doubt that 2013 will be a great year for you--you have so much untapped potential!

    1. Thanks Amanda! I am excited and nervous for the crossfit competition. I hope I don't embarrass myself or wimp out. Matt seems to think I am going to knock it out of the ball park, but we shall see. He is worried that I might become addicted to them, haha. He made me promise I would only do 1 before Windermere so that I don't get hurt. :-)

  22. Ah, Jillian. SHe's good, but there are so many options out there for ab stuff. 5 min plank is NO joke. I can do maybe 3 min straight. I have always wanted to read one book a month, but I can't seem to make it happen. Would really have to prioritize reading. :)

    1. There are a ton of options for core work. I just find I like the variety so I usually wing it and just use my interval timer for x amount of minutes. The plank took a lot of time. My max used to be between 2-3 minutes. I kind of slacked off this last week so I need to get with the program again.
