I have two half marathons coming up- commence freak out?! One I
registered for months ago and is the sole reason why I pulled out my half
marathon training plan and dusted it off. The second half marathon is a late
development that I only registered for a couple of weeks, just before it sold
out. On April 3rd I will once again tackle the hills of San
Francisco and run the Rock n Roll Half Marathon. One of the races I said I
would probably NEVER run again. I really need to stop saying that, I am stupid
and always go back. This time the course is different so maybe it will be fun? You can read my recap from my previous race experience HERE.
Old course at SF Rock n Roll
We ended up having a companion ticket that needed
to be used by April 5th so after some back and forth discussion we
settled on a family trip to San Francisco. In true fashion we are waiting until
the very last minute to use our ticket, but it is getting used. It will be fun taking Little to one of our
favorite cities. Instead of trips to breweries and a tour through wine country
we will be going to family friendly places like the zoo and the aquarium. How
lives change in just a few short years. J
I know that I will be more than capable of
finishing both races. My running has been going great despite being pregnant.
Each week I have averaged around 30 miles and I have completed several long
runs ranging from 9 miles to over 13. This week will be my last week running
around 30 and then the next two weeks I will taper off. The original half that I signed up for is the
following Sunday on 4/10. And there will be more hills.
Depending on how both races go, I might sign up
for an additional half at the end of May. My running has been going so good
this pregnancy that I feel really confident that I can run the race in May.
It was my first half marathon ages ago and is relatively flat. There
is also another half the first weekend of June that is pancake flat with a
slight downhill. Perhaps I will just run both of them! J

That's impressive, Tasha! I think I did my last "long run" of 10 miles or so around 12 or 14 weeks and was like "nope, not doing that again." It just didn't feel so good in my pelvis by the end. And by 27 weeks, I was looking and feeling pretty silly on my runs, although I did continue run/walking until about 30/31 weeks. That's awesome that you've been able to keep the mileage up and are feeling good! Have fun in SF! Love that city.
ReplyDeleteI felt like you just described above when I was pregnant with Alexis. This pregnancy is the polar opposite for me and I really don't know why. My energy from day 1 has been through the roof and running hasn't bothered me at all. I stopped running more than about 15 miles a week at this point with Alexis, but I can easily run more than 30 miles a week now. It is crazy! I will admit that I feel like I need to stretch more being pregnant and I do have a muscle in my leg that keeps being a pest. I can't wait to go back to SF- we had so much fun last time. Alexis is obsessed with monkeys so I am sure that taking her to the zoo will be a huge hit. :-)
DeleteWe've done several RnR races and they never disappoint. I hope you enjoy RnR San fran!
ReplyDeleteThey are pricey, but always well put on events. Portland was my first RnR and then SF a few years ago. I signed for Seattle one year, but was injured and didn't end up running it. I have thought about maybe running Portland this year, but I am not sure how large and in charge I will be then. :-)
DeleteI just glanced at the course map....Interesting changes! I'll be curious to hear what you think as compared to previous years. Good luck!!
