San Francisco or BUST!

In a couple of days I am leaving for what will be my third racecation! My first one was Boston and my second one was Houston. This time I will be going to San Francisco! I am so excited to visit a city that we have never been to before. I am also excited to just get away and run a fun race courtesy of Brooks Running. Thanks Brooks, you ROCK!

I know that there are a ton of fun things to do in the Bay area. I have loved everyone's suggestions! The most important "must do" thing for me is going wine tasting in Napa. I have always wanted to go to Napa. I have been begging to go there for years now.

Some things on my list of things to do are:
NAPA
Giants game????
Lombard St.
Anchor Brewery tour
Fisherman's Wharf
Ghiradelli
Golden Gate Bridge + Golden Gate State Park
China Town
Berkley?
In n Out Burger (never been to one before!!!)
Ryokos (recommended for awesome sushi)
Can't forget about the expo either :-)

My "type A" self started packing over the weekend. I am literally ready to go! I just need to throw in my make up and drive myself to the airport. Oh, I can't forget to drop off Sweet Tia & Maisy Moo at the sitter's house.....

I am looking forward to just getting away and letting myself re-charge. Training right now is literally kicking my butt. I feel like I need more rest than I have been getting, but I struggle with the thought of taking extra "off" days during crucial training time. I know that this vacation will allow me to let loose and not get so worked up over a training run. I need to have fun too!

So, I guess that I will see everyone next week! I hope that everyone is enjoying the same spring weather that we are in Spokane. I am loving the sports bra/shorts running weather.

Questions for you:
When you go on a racecation do you like to do as many "touristy" things as you can?
What is your favorite thing to do in San Francisco (if you have been there)?

  1. I've never been to San Fran, but in San Diego this summer we found the nearest In & Out and it was to die for! And I don't even like hamburgers!

  3. I love doing "touristy" things while on racecations! I strongly recommend getting a bread bowl full of clam chowder - so yummy! Can't wait to hear about your adventures and have a great race! I definitely think getting some re-charge time is always beneficial!

    1. Thanks Amy! I don't like clam chowder, but I love bread bowls. Maybe I can get something else in my bowl. I do love sushi so I am excited to check out the restaurant that my friend Erika recommended. This will be a nice and much needed re-charge. My little gas tank is on empty right now. :/

  4. I'm so excited for you for your trip :-) I hope you have an AMAZING time! I have never been to SF either but thought I might be going once and looked in to what I'd like to do - and your list has lots of the things I remember reading about. It sounds like you'll get a well deserved break at last! Good luck for the race too :-)

    1. Thanks Kari! I am so excited to visit a city that I have never been to before. It looks beautiful and there seems to be a lot of fun things to do and see. The races goes over the Golden Gate bridge which is neat!

  6. My favorite thing to do is run the hills of Marin County, just outside of San Fran - gorgeous!!!!!!! My other favorite thing to do is shopping in Sausalito and then hit the high country over there for some spectacular views of the GG Bridge. So cool.

Of the 20 or so marathons I've done, none have been in my home state. Isn't that crazy? I just loving to travel to different places and running a race there. When budget allows :). You're going to have so much fun, excited or you!

    1. Thanks Jill, I am so excited to explore the bay area. Looks beautiful in all of the pictures that I have seen. Should be a really fun trip. Of course I am most excited about Napa. I am such a wino!

Come to think of it, I haven't ran a marathon in WA state yet either. Of course I haven't ran as many as you, but my 5th marathon will be in WA. :-)

    1. San Fran is absolutely beautiful. I would go back, but not to run a race. Those hills chewed me up and spit me back out!

  9. I haven't been on a racecation yet! October!

SFO IS MY FAVE CITY!!By the way you need to hit up @pavementrunner - he lives there ;)

All the above are great - Go to Sausalito (it's on the side where the Golden Gate state park is)
    - Palace of Fine arts
    - Maiden Lane/Union square shopping!
    - Painted ladies (houses from Full House) and the beautiful park next to it is great for a picnic
    - Coit tower
    - Twin peaks is worth the drive for the view alone
    - TSCHO chocolate refinery is on Pier 17.
    - Embarcadero is a MUST - so many awesome eats and things to buy
    - Kara's Cupcakes (Scott Street)

you can pretty much start walking at the Embarcadero along the water and hit up TSCHO, then Fisherman's wharf for clam chowder in a bread bowl, then keep going and you'll get to Ghiradelli for dessert. Take a trolley up to Lombard street. SFO is super easy to get around - public transportation is amazing.

    1. Okay, we hit up most of those places!!!! Kara's cupcakes were pretty good. Wished I wouldn't have gotten just one. I was nice and shared it with my hubby. :-)

I went to Boudin and got a bread bowl, but had tomato soup because I don't like clam chowder. I also had yummy coconut shrimp at Fisherman's wharf. :-)

    1. I used tripadvisor too! That is how I found about the Anchor Brewery tour. There are so many things to do in SF it is almost overwhelming. I would love to go back someday.
