Monday:
Pulled another double. This one was not so fun. It
ended in me almost puking.
3 x 3 mile repeats with 2 minute recovery breaks.
Essentially three 5ks in a row?! YUCK. I started out with an easy 1 mile warm
up before doing some stretching and some mental prepping. I needed a lot of mental prepping.
Finished off a shaky leg cool down for 1 mile AND 15
minutes of core BEFORE
heading to Farmgirlfit.
I wouldn’t say that I am hardcore, crazy sounds
more like it.
FGF was TOUGH. This is the first time I ever felt like
I was going to throw up. That last 800 meter run I was dying. My legs felt like
bricks after the jumping air squats. Every step I had to tell myself to not
throw up. I was so glad AND hungry when I was finished.
Tuesday:
Easy 4.5 mile run with the Lantern Run Club
followed by 20 minutes of core. I felt pretty good. It is nice to have an
actual “recovery” day. The weather was beautiful too. No long sleeved shirt
required!
Wednesday:
Track day at the actual track. I looked online at
work to make sure that kiddos had a meet somewhere else. I didn’t want to show
them up or anything. The weather was perfect; it felt great to run in the sun.
I even think my nose got a little burnt!
1 mile E pace + 4 x {2 x 200 meter R pace w/200 meter
recovery jogs + 1 x 400 meter R pace w/400 meter recovery job} + 1 mile E pace
E pace- 8:00- 8:15
R pace- 5:40- 5:30
I am surprised at how relatively comfortable these
repeats felt. The 200s went by fast, but the 400s did hurt a little.
My fastest 200 was 39 seconds
My fastest 400 was 1:22
I had a little over an hour before the 6:30 FGF
class so I opted to make it another double day. Again, I felt like I was going
to throw up because we had 200 meter sprints in our workout. We also had bears,
and bears are really tough. I stepped it up and did level 4 so I was proud of
myself.
Thursday:
Easy 3 mile run through the neighborhood plus 20
minutes of core work.
Friday:
OFF. Day of relaxation well earned!
Saturday:
22 mile long run
2 miles E, 3 miles T, 14 miles E, 3 miles T, 2 miles E
This run was the hardest long run of my life. I struggled going into mile 6. My 3 miles of T pace were not on target- I don't think that they were even close to a 7:00-7:05 pace. Hit mile 6 and I was done. Like I sat on the curb, shed a tear or two, called my husband, called my husband again, called him again and again to have him not answer. I thought about how I would feel if I didn't finish the run. I thought about how far I have come and how even at the moment I hated running, I really, really, really do love running. At that point I decided I had to at least hit 10 miles and then reevaluate. I got to 10 miles and figured another 5K couldn't hurt. At that point even though everything hurt, I knew that I could finish the run. I did finish that stinker of a run and I couldn't be more proud of myself. My paces were not on target, but I don't care about that. The sense of accomplishment I have for powering through another 16 miles after almost calling it quits trumps everything.

I definitely found my STRONG on that run!
Sunday:
Active recovery day! I thought about not doing anything, but the weather was too beautiful to not be outside! I decided to take Laney out for an hour (ish) ride around the south hill. Ended up with a fantastic sunshine filled 14 miles. Got home and finished up with 20 minutes of core.
Questions for you:
How do you find your strong?
Do you tend to give up easily or do you keep fighting for it?
I hope that everyone had a HOPPY EASTER!!!!
--Tasha
Whoa girl...you cray cray...in the nicest way! ;) I wish I had your energy and mental focus! Or do come marathon time!i just think I'm spent after these6 halves...my lil legs are in need of a break so I can find my strong a lot easier and more enjoyably ;)
ReplyDeleteThe energy is draining rapidly. This will be my last marathon for a LONG time....
DeleteWow! I am impressed! Way to finish up the long run - I know that feeling. It's so overwhelming and those miles loom ahead of you and feel absolutely impossible. You should be mega stinkin' proud of yourself for finishing. Those are the runs that I remember when regular life is giving me trouble! Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteI am proud of myself for finishing it, it was super tough. Just worried about the rest of my long runs now. I don't have much energy these days. UGH.
DeleteAWESOME job on your long run! you should be proud of yourself! Good luck with this coming week of training - your soooo close! :)
ReplyDeleteI usually keep fighting for it - it takes alot for me to give up on something although I had to this weekend (the first time EVER!) - the shin wasn't quite cooperating - hoping it was just the day(!) - you are definitely an inspiration and the definition of "you are capable of more than you think you are" - again, great job! :)
I know, I am so close, but yet it seems sooooo far away. LOL. I have been training for this race since November. It just needs to be here now. Never said that I was patient by any means. :-)
DeleteI hope that your shin is doing better now. Have you been icing it since Saturday?
WTG powering through! It's the best feeling! I found my strong with my long run yesterday that was 18 miles as run #2 of back to back training runs.
ReplyDeleteMore importantly...finally running with out layers and wearing capris and short sleeves. Woohoo!
Thanks Jill! Great job on the 18 miles too. I think any distance over 13 miles can be taxing and tough. I am beyond excited about running in shorts and tanks now. It is awesome!
DeleteWow! What a nice week of training! You have come such a long way!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brandi!
Deleteholy moly what a week! You definitely got in a full week of workouts. I have done the same thing - the countdown pep talk - "only x left - easy..." it seems to be just the lie that I need to tell myself to keep me going. I have had some runs that I zilched, but for the most part - by the time I feel like crap I'm too far from home to just walk. Good incentive to keep going!
ReplyDeleteSometimes giving myself those little pep talks is the only way I can make it through tough or long workouts. Glad I am not the only one who thinks like that. :-)
Deleteblowing my mind right now!!! 3x3 that is serious stuff and you hit some awesome paces!! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda! :-)
Deletewowww, fantastic week of training, as per usual!! Nice work on powering through a difficult long run, very impressive! I gave up during my first marathon and called my boyfriend to come pick me up and then when he showed up I decided to keep going...the mind does funny things while in misery.
ReplyDeleteThanks Katherine! I can't believe you called your BF to come and pick you up during your first marathon. I am glad that you finished it. It is a sense of accomplishment when you can power through those rough moments.
DeleteDespite how tough your 22 was, wouldn't you rather it happen now then on race day?? I like to think those will make race day better :) Also, I love that structure of your LR! Is that from your coach/training program? Does it seem helpful?
ReplyDeleteOh, I would totally rather have every long run be awful and have race day be perfect. The structure of the long run is from my coach. Not sure where he gets the concept from, but he is an exercise physiologist who has done a lot of research on using threshold paces for training. All of my workouts are based off of my threshold results that he takes before he makes the plan.
Deletewow you are amazing!! what a great week of training you had! you go girl! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle :-)
DeleteYou are one tough lady!! Congrats for finishing strong! You are such a running inspiration to me.
ReplyDeleteAWWW, thanks Kate!!!! You are so sweet. I have loved following your training journey. So excited for you!
DeleteAmazing!! Cna't believe you're doing your 20 milers 7 weeks out! I see a sub 3 in your future!
ReplyDeleteUGH. I still have one 22 miler and two 24 milers. So help me running god! I have grown to hate the marathon. Even though a sub 3 goal has been at the top of my list since meeting my coach, I am kind of throwing it out the window for now. I think I am better suited for shorter distances.
Deleteserious speed / endurance workouts. Way to go
ReplyDeleteThank you Chris!
DeleteYou are so inspirational!! Keep on rocking girl :)
ReplyDeletexo
Thanks Karina! Excited to hear about your race that is coming up. :-)
DeleteHardcore and crazy?! Tasha, this is so amazing. And I'm so excited that you are 7 weeks off!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kari! I am so excited that I am almost there too! Woohoo!!!!! Marathon training seems to take forever.
