A lot of you have been posting these short yearly recaps from 2012 so here is mine.....
Best race experience: Houston 1/2 marathon! Had a fun vacation with Mr. Healthy Diva and got to meet Desi Davila and watch the Olympic Marathon Trials. Also snagged my 1/2 marathon PR and eat far too much amazing BBQ. It was a fun week!
Worst race experience: Eugene Marathon. Still have a bitter taste in my mouth over it. If you would like to read about it- you can here.
Best run: On Easter Sunday I had my last “long” run before the Eugene Marathon. It was 24 miles (12 at easy pace and 12 at mp). I nailed the run in 3:03:37and it was AWESOME (post here). The best part besides feeling like a rockstar was having Mr. Healthy Diva ride his bike with me and hold me snacks and Nuun. Not to mention the BBQ bacon cheeseburger and extra fries I had when I was done- which was amazing!
Best new piece of gear: I love my new Brooks Utopia arm warmers Mr. Healthy Diva bought me for my birthday. They have a key pocket and little mittens to cover your hands.
Best piece of training advice: Trust your training! and…when you are coming back from an injury DO NOT compare your previous splits from similar runs.
Most inspirational runner: TOUGH question!!!! Professionally I have to say Desi Davila. I absolutely love her. There are a lot of inspiring women out there, I can’t pick just one. :/
Summing up my year in a few words: Not what I expected!
Running ups: Having the opportunity to connect with so many amazing and talented women and great companies that I love and am proud to represent.
Running downs: Being diagnosed with anterior compartment syndrome :/

Those arm warmers look awesome. Sorry your year didn't go as planned, but at least you did have some good highlights. Hope next year is closer to what you want!
ReplyDeleteThe arm warmers even have a key pouch and little pull over mittens for you hands. Love them! I think that 2013 is going to be a FANTASTIC year!!! At least I am keeping my fingers crossed. :-)
DeleteI agree, those arm warmers look super warm. All the ones I have are very thin. Here's to a new year and new races!
ReplyDeleteThese arm warmers are nice and warm. You would like them.
DeleteI agree - Desi is so inspiring! I love those brooks arm warmers - i might have to snag myself a pair!!
ReplyDeleteI just love Desi!!! She is tiny! I look like a giant compared to her and I am only 5 foot 5!
DeleteI think that the arm warmers come in other colors too. I like the black/grey combo because they go with everything. My husband had the owner of Fleet Feet help him with the purchase. I am lucky that they know me and my taste really well.
Those arm warmers are so cool, I need to get some:) Here's to an awesome 2013! Happy holidays:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachelle- you too!!!! 2013 is going to be FANTASTIC- I can feel it!
Deleteyeah thumbs down to the compartment syndrome....
ReplyDelete....but 2013 has lots of amazing things in store for you :)
Big thumbs down to compartment syndrome. Totally ruined my year :/ However, I have a hunch that 2013 will make up for it. :-)
DeleteI imagine that not what you expected would go a long way to summing things up - it has certainly been a challenging year for you in some ways, but I'm glad there have been positives too and I hope 2013 is injury free :)
ReplyDeleteI hope that 2013 is injury free too! At least even with a stupid injury I did learn a lot about myself and learned how strong and dedicated I really am. I loved how I was able to embrace other fitness arenas like crossfit and find out that I enjoy it just as much as running.
DeleteI love reading end of the year recaps. You certainly have had your ups and downs, but I know the downs made you stronger and you are going to have a fantastic 2013. So excited for you.
ReplyDeleteA very Merry Christmas to you and Mr. Healthy!! :)
xo
The downs definitely made me stronger. I am thankful for that. I am really looking forward to 2013
DeleteMerry Christmas to you as well!!!! XO
I love looking back on the year and realizing that everything (ups and downs) I experienced made me into the person that I am. :)
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great weekend!
That is why I like yearly recaps so much. You don't really realize how certain experiences shape you. :-)
DeleteWhat a year for you! Amazing half marathon pr time! And then to deal with the compartment sydrome- you had a little bit of everything this year. Wishing you a wonderful 2013!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura- definitely dealt with the roller coaster this year, but I wouldn't change any of it. Well I would probably change the compartment syndrome thing. Good things did come out of it, but I wouldn't wish that injury on anyone.
DeleteHope you have a wonderful 2013! Those are the first arm warmers that make me want to look into getting a pair!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful 2013 too Abbi!!!!
DeleteThe arm warmers are awesome! If you are looking for a pair they are the best. I got mine last month and have already worn them more times then I can count. I even wore them as an extra layer to football games this last month.
Glad you're back from compartment syndrome. Good luck in 2013!
ReplyDeleteThanks Meggie! I still don't want to jinx myself, but I think I am good now. :-)
Deletecan’t wait to see what 2013 brings for you-especially after the highs and lows of 2012! and, LOVE those arm warmers!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait either! I have so many goals for next year it is crazy. I am scared to make them public though because I don't want to jinx myself. :/
DeleteI do know that there will be at least 1 relay race, a duathlon, a triathlon, several 1/2 marathons, and a marathon mixed in there somewhere. It should be a busy and fun year to make up for 2012.
The arm warmers are the BEST. I LOVE them!!!!!!
