Taper Crazies

This last week has been hard on me. I hate tapering. It is such a mental game for me. I get cranky and I feel like I could start to cry at the drop of a pin. Don't even get me started on food. Good lord. I could eat everything within my reach. Being hungry makes me cranky. Being hungry/cranky & tapering = disaster.

Monday was my designated rest day. The only physical activity I had was some stretching at physical therapy.

Tuesday I had a nice little 1200 meter workout at threshold pace. It went fabulous and felt effortless.

Workout called for 3-4 X 1200 meter repeats at my threshold pace of 6:40-6:55 with 2 min recovery and 1 mile easy warm up, 1 mile easy cool down. Piece of cake! All were within target range with the last one being below.

WU: 1 mile in 8:16
#1 5:06 (6:50 pace)
#2 5:03 (6:46 pace)
#3 5:02 (6:45 pace)
#4 4:58 (6:39 pace)
CD: 1 mile in 8:01

Wednesday I also had physical therapy and massive deep tissue work done. OUCH! After PT I had to run an easy 5 miles (8:00-8:30 pace). I decided to run downtown on the Centennial Trail so that I could see the Spokane Falls. It is absolutely stunning this time of year!

There was a lot of people out on the trail and I even "ran" into the Lululemon Run Club. They were all looking great!

On the schedule for Thursday is  an easy 3 miles (8:00-8:30 pace) and Friday calls for an additional easy 5 miles. I might not run 5 miles on Friday depending on when we leave for Eugene. I will at least get in an easy 3 before we leave.

Kind of crazy to think that Eugene is so close. TWO RUNS LEFT!!!!!

  1. Woohoo! So excited for you!!

I saw someone on FB called the taper the "taper tantrums" - love it!

    1. Thanks Jill!!! I have seen "taper tantrums" too- it is so true! Tapering is a very interesting and not so fun aspect of training. UGH.

  2. Tapering is really hard. But worth it! I'm sure you'll be glad when the big day rolls around :)

    1. Thanks- I know it will be, it is just hard sometimes. :-)

  3. So exciting! I love the Spokane Falls! I took my boys there last year while my hubby was there on business. We took the Gondola ride:)

  4. YAY!! 2 runs left! WOO HOO :) I love the Team Healthy Diva shirts, too. So cute!

  5. Tapering for swimming was the was crazy that I could honestly like gain 10 pounds in the two weeks before our meets if I wasn't careful!

  6. AHHH! It's so close!! You're going to ROCK it!!!

  7. Eeee so excited for you!!! You are going to kick some a$$ and take some names for sure!!! Hang in there with the taper and just keep storing up that energy and craziness to let loose when you're running the marathon :) EYE OF THE TIGER AND LEGS LIKE A GAZELLE

  8. You have a WAY better attitude about tapering then I do! I need to follow your lead this next week!

I love your comments & inspiration
