What else was discovered at this appointment (which I kind of already was aware of) is that my left side is extremely weak compared to my right side. The weakness is causing a waterfall of effects. Luckily, I am not injured due to this...YET. I will really need concentrate on strengthening the leg muscles on my left side and with that my stride should improve.
Normal foot stance
Not normal- how I have been running
My PT was awesome. He gave me some stretching & lifting exercises that will help improve my strength. I am supposed to do these exercises 3-4 times a week. That means I will be do them at least 7 times a week. :-)
My fun bands
My stretching exercises
My PT said I can still run as much as I would like too, which is great news. On top of my easy miles I use to warm up he would also like to see me incorporating more strides, lunges etc. to improve coordination and flexibility. I used to do a lot of this when I had a personal trainer so it will be easy for me to work into my warm up.
The company I work for has a sports performance center that I am starting to think I might take advantage of. It's obviously not covered by insurance, but I would get a discount since I work for them. At this point, I am willing to give it a try and see if it helps "boost my athletic performance". If you live in the Spokane area, you should check out the Rockwood Sports Performance.
I am also contemplating taking up some yoga for my flexibility issues. That will be a "stretch" (haha) for me because I hate yoga- so B-O-R-I-N-G!!!
I go back to PT in 2 weeks so I hope that I can make some progress between now and then. :-)
Yesterday I was also able to schedule my neuro consult for the nerve conduction study. Apparently Neurology is super backed up right now so the earliest I could get in is May 3rd!!! Looks like my recruiting department needs to start recruiting more neurologists....
I am feeling really high maintenance right now and I hate that. My life is so consumed with my training: weekly chiro appointments, bi-monthly massages, PT, endless doctor appointments...the list goes on. I hope that everything I am doing will be beneficial for my BIG GOAL.
Questions for you:
Do you use yoga as part of your training routine?
What does your warm up routine consist of?

Haha, I was just laying in bed last night thinking about how I need to start doing some yoga. Like you, I don't love it. However, I know I need to add that and some strength exercises in. I realized yesterday that I'm quite the minimalist - I stink at stretching and strength exercises. Or rather, I rarely do them :( I know I need to change that!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're figuring out what's going on with your body and that you can do something to correct what's going on.
24 days. 22 hours. 48 minutes. :)
I'm going to yoga at lululemon on Saturday. I hope I don't get made fun of! :-)
DeleteI don't love yoga either but it has helped me A TON and because of that I just view it as a necessary. It has helped with my hip and my back but I have to make sure and DO IT or I can start to slip back into being VERY tight. I had a weird issue with my legs being out of balance due to my motorcycle accidents which was almost 8 years ago now but I landed on my right leg and bruised the bone which made me gimpy for awhile and that side gets tighter so if I don't stretch my stride starts to go wacky. I warm up with lunges, butt kicks and high knees...I probably should do more though.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting yoga this week Kris. :-)
DeleteSweet!! They have it free on Saturdays at Lululemon for a month. I wanted to go last week but it wasn't going to happen, I thought about going this Saturday but we will see about that. It's at 9:30
DeleteHaha I just read your reply to Meredith, you are going, maybe I'll see you there :)
