I am so exhausted today, plus really behind from being gone all weekend. Does anyone else feel like they need a vacation from their vacation?! Since San Francisco was so much fun I decided to break up my recaps so I don't leave out any fun details. It was an amazing vacation and an awesome race! THANK YOU for all of your wonderful recommendations of things to do in San Francisco!!!! We definitely hit up a lot of them while we were there.
The beginning of our journey to SFO, before we got stuck in Las Vegas Lost Wages for 4 hours
Thursday:
After work I was just excited to get to San Fran. Flight from Spokane to Vegas was on time, but I kept getting emails saying the flight from Vegas to San Fran was going to be delayed. What ended up being at first a one hour delay turned into FOUR hours! I was thinking I could "Amazing Race It" and run off the plane to get on a flight to Oakland only to find out that no flights were departing/arriving from Oakland or San Francisco. So much for my "Amazing Race" audition! All the flights were delayed because President
Obama was in SF and was departing Thursday night- there were hundreds of people waiting to fly into the Bay area.
Finally arrived in SF around 2 am. There was no public
transportation or rental car options at that hour. Most expensive cab ride ever.
Friday:
Went for a nice run down to the Pier and back.
Good little 4.5 mile shake out run. My garmin wasn't really cooperating with finding a satellite with all of the skyscrapers so my distance is an estimate. I am just thankful that I didn't get lost!
Pictures from my run:
After my run it was expo time!!!! I was in
and out of the expo in less than 15 minutes. Talk about moving quick! There was a good reason for "running" through the expo though- we had a 1:00 pm tour at Anchor Brewery. It was fun to see Kim from Nuun there. She recommended an awesome winery & deli to visit in Napa which we ended up loving AND purchasing a lot of wine to be shipped to our home, BUT I digress.
LOVED the race shirt!!!!!
My one and only expo purchase
The Anchor Brewery was fun, not my favorite beer, but it was alright. The tour was pretty packed and parts of the brewery were loud so if you weren't up front you couldn't hear the guide very well. The tour was free with six, 4 oz free beer samples. No wonder why it is ranked so high on the list of things to do in San Francisco!
The first stage in the beer making process
The final stage in the cellar. It was really cold!
Samples!
After Anchor we decided to hit up China Town. We ended up having dinner there at a sketchy little joint. I was praying I didn’t get food poisoning because the chicken tasted a little off IMO.
After dinner we were in search of a fun sports bar to hang out in. After walking around everywhere, we finally found one right around the corner from our hotel called "Lefty O'Douls". The bartender was awesome and it was a fun night.

I would have been so annoyed at the 'no food after 9' at the airport deal. Otherwise it looks like you had a fun time! And I always feel like I need a vacation after my vacation :D
ReplyDeleteI know and I was starving!!! I think I am caught up on my sleep now, but it would have been nice to have had yesterday off to play catch up.
DeleteNo food after 9 in a city that does not sleep? That is nuts...I am not a fan of LV... But I love SF
ReplyDeleteI thought it was ridiculous too!!!
DeleteEspecially since a bar was open....
DeleteThat plane delay (and no food!) sounds really unhelpful but I'm glad you enjoyed yourself once you arrived :) This first recap all sounds great, I'll look forward to the future ones!
ReplyDeleteGetting there and returning home were the only negatives of the trip. San Francisco was absolutely fabulous!
DeleteSounds like a great time and looking forward to the future recaps, looking to go on a little San Fran getaway soon so always fun to see what others do!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many fun things to do in SF. There was a lot that we had planned on maybe doing, but didn't have time for. Looks like we will just need to go back again someday.
DeleteSorry your travel plans had a kink, but was so happy to see you guys enjoying yourselves! And great gear to travel with ;)
ReplyDeleteIt was one of my favorite vacations. :-)
DeleteBeer tour sounds like fun...even if it wasn't the best! Love the shirts from the expo...can't wait to read more! :)
ReplyDeleteThe finisher's shirt is probably one of my favorites. I love the black/red color combo.
Deletebummer about being stuck in Vegas and with no food options :( Looks like your first full day in SF was amazing. Such a good time for you! And you are so stinkin cute!!!
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks Marnee! SF is probably one of my favorite vacations, such a fun city. So many cool things to do!
DeleteLooks fun! I've always wanted to go to SF!!
ReplyDeleteSF is fun Kate, I hope that you can go someday. :-)
DeleteAwwww, i've been so busy, and am realizing how much i missed your blog! San Fran looks amazing, i have ever been - so i will have to live viciously through you, haha. Can't wait to hear about lagunitas!! :)
ReplyDeleteLagunitas was AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME. You and Matt would love it there! I wish that we had more time to taste beer or designated driver. :-)
DeleteJust have to say this post makes me miss living in the Bay Area A TON! Looks like you had a great time despite the flight issues. Cant wait for the next posts :)
ReplyDeleteThe bay area was beautiful! It was a great vacation for sure.
DeleteSounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteNot as amazing as your awesome trip Becky, but it was still fun. :-)
DeleteI enjoyed following along on your vacation adventures. Installment one sounds like it was a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe you grew up there! What a beautiful area. I couldn't stop taking pictures. :-)
DeleteI can't believe I missed you in San Fran :( Grgrgrr If you are running RnR Portland, San Diego or Seattle, please let me know. I am heading to Portland and Seattle with a big group of closed friends.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading your race recap. I loved this race!
DeleteMaybe Seattle, but I am not 100% sure. Definitely not PDX because it is the same day as my marathon. I am bummed that we missed each other. I should have known you were going to be there. :/
DeleteWow! I'm sorry your flight was delayed, that's terrible. I guess packing snacks would really come in handy here. I never have, but just may next time I travel (in case).
ReplyDeleteI love breweries so I'm glad that was fun :)
I know, I seriously needed some snacks! Breweries and wineries seriously rock. :-)
DeleteI also did San fran last weekend! What a fun race! I loved running over the bridge. The weather was perfect. Hilly/tough course but I love a good challenge!!
ReplyDeleteI had a fun couple days before...some sight seeing, Giants game, good food...I love race-cations but it is always nice to be able to stay after the race to enjoy the city!!
Looks like you had a great time!!
I also had a Kara's cupcake! It was great!
Running over the bridge was my favorite part too. Such beautiful views and an amazing experience. We almost went to a Giants game, but we decided not to go at the last minute. We definitely ate way too much good food, but for the most part we walked off the calories. :-)
DeleteAdding these to our itinerary for next week! Love that Nuun hat, btw!! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope that you have fun while you are in Cali! So many great things to do and see. I love the Nuun hat too! It's my favorite :-)
