I wasn’t going to blog about this, but I feel like I need to get it in writing or else I will chicken out. Remember when I mentioned that I wanted to do a crossfit competition in the new year? If you are friends with me on facebook you might remember that I publicly announced that I had signed up for one in January. It happens to be that the competition is this Sunday. BIG GULP.
I signed up for the novice division because I really have no clue what I am doing or what I am getting myself into. According to the website I should be able to complete all of the possible movements and weight suggestions. I have done them numerous times since joining Farmgirlfit in October.
Clean & jerk to a max load
Squat clean (115/75)
KB swing (53/35)
Should to OH (95/65)
Jump rope
Box jumps
Deadlift (225/145)
Pull ups (chin over bar-men/ring rows-women)
In writing this all seems so simple. However, I know that there will be some serious competition! Crossfit peeps do not mess around. Now that it is crunch time I am absolutely terrified to go. What was I thinking when I registered?! Obviously I wasn’t thinking. I am not fit like all those other crossfit chicks, I don’t have perfect lifting form, and I have teeny weeny little runner muscles! Even the name of the event sounds intimidating. The WOD Warrior. I am terrified just thinking about it. This whole event could go south rather quickly, but I am hoping it doesn’t go that way……Now that I officially have this in writing, I have to hold myself accountable. I cannot chicken out.
If you happen to be awake around 9 am PST please say a prayer for me J
Questions for you:
Have you ever participated in a crossfit competition?
Ever registered for an event and then chickened out?

I find myself drawn to challenges so even though I've never done anything like this I get why you jumped into it. I'm sure it will be a great experience. How can something new and intimidating not be? Good for you for signing up and saying it out loud. :) From, Another gal with teeny weeny little runner muscles!
ReplyDeleteI love a good challenge too, probably why I signed up in the first place. However, it seemed like a much better idea when I first registered. I am sure that everything will be good and then I will feel like an idiot for being so terrified. My coach is worried that I will fall in love with it. He told me I can only do 1 crossfit competition before Windermere. He knows my addictive personality and how I operate.
DeleteThat's pretty funny about your coach. :)
DeleteI don't know how he knows me so well, but he does. He is a funny guy! I am lucky to have him on my side. We have had quite the year of ups and downs, but things are finally falling into place. Knock on wood :-)
DeleteI have never done Crossfit but I always think that if I had the opportunity I would. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou would love it Christy!!!!! Thanks :-)
DeleteI will pray for you:) You got this! Way to step out of your comfort zone Tasha. If I can do a tri without drowning, you can do this no problem:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachelle. Your comment did make me smile. I hope that I can also do a triathlon without drowning. :-)
DeleteWhoa what a way t take charge! I'd totally sign up if I knew what I was doing, kick butt girl!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat!!!!!
DeleteOoh! Can't wait to hear all about it!
ReplyDeleteI am sure that it will make for a great blog post once it's over. I told my husband he has to go so he can take lots of pictures. Hopefully of me looking all awesome and not like a dumb dumb.
DeleteEek! This sounds so scary to me. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim!!!!
DeleteYou can totally do this! Of COURSE it's scary and it'll be hard, for sure... but, you got this! Can't wait to hear all about it!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Meagan. I can't wait for it to be over so that I can say I did it and cross it off of my 2013 goal list.
Deleteyou will be FINE! That being said, i have never competed at anything. But seriously, i bet everyone else is equally nervous right now. ROCK IT!
ReplyDeleteThat is what I keep telling myself- everyone else is going to be nervous too. Especially those of us in the novice division. Before every race (no matter the distance) I feel like I am going to vomit.
DeleteTasha, I can say this with the utmost confidence...you are going to surprise the heck out of yourself! You are incredibly fit, stronger then you realize and basically..amazing. I think this is going to be one of the funnest things you will do all year. It will be different and the cross-fit crowd is definitely different then other crowds but you be YOU and enjoy yourself; smile and enjoy the experience! I am looking forward to hearing about it. Make sure Mr. Healthy Diva takes lots of pictures of you rockin it!!! XOXOXO
ReplyDeleteThanks Marnee! I have a feeling that I will surprise myself- hopefully in a good way. I am sure that just like anything I am making a big deal out of nothing. Once I get started in get in my groove I am sure that I will have fun. I am interested in seeing how a crossfit competition operates. We have to check in at 8 am, but they said the competition might last until 3 pm. That is a long day! I have no idea what to pack. Do I bring food? A book? I don't know, lol. Mr. Healthy Diva is going to go and watch and take pictures until 1:00 pm. After that the Seahawks game is supposedly more important. :-)
DeleteAhhhh so exciting! you've got it in the bag :) Just go with a sense of badass-ery and you'll be fine! Can't wait to hear about it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nikki!! It should be a great experience to blog about once it is over. I will try and bring my badass-ery and then some!
DeleteWow! I love your boldness in trying new things (even if you are freaking out right now!) How about we say a prayer for each other at that time- I'll be half way through the marathon when you start competing. :)
ReplyDeleteI am totally going to be thinking about you on Sunday and will send you lots of speedy thoughts. You are going to do AWESOME!!!!!!
DeleteI am SO excited for you!!! I freak out every time I hit {submit} after adding another event to my calendar. :)
ReplyDeleteI've only backed out of one event, but it was because I was sick. Once you put it out there, there's no turning back, right?
You're going to do amazing, and I'll be up & saying a prayer for you!!!
you will do GREAT!! can’t wait to hear all about it! sending good thoughts your way on Saturday morning!
ReplyDeleteAh!! You are so ready for this. I have been reading about your Farmfit Girl stuff for a long time. Personally, I think a weights competition is a great thing for a runner girl. Remind your coach that you are female, lack testosterone, and this won't make you bulkier, bigger or slower. Just more balanced and stronger/faster!!
ReplyDeleteThat is really great that you signed up for it Tasha!! I think that you can totally do it! :)
ReplyDeleteYou got this girl! Don't worry about the others - since it's your first, go into with a runners' mind perhaps - the only competition is between you and yourself - do the best you can! That's all that matters :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Let us know how it goes!!
You've got this!! Doing scary things is how we grow. I will definitely say a prayer for you on Sunday! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are going to do AMAZING! You are just as strong as all the other competitors and will do just as amazing. Remember you are going out there for yourself and to HAVE FUN and it will make it seem so much more achievable. Can't wait to hear all about it!
