Santa was VERY good to me this year

I guess I was on Santa's "good" list this year! I kind of told Mr. Healthy Diva a couple of months ago that I wanted a road bike so that I could do a triathlon and get more into biking. Biking is one thing that I fell in love with when I couldn't run. I haven't really said much more about getting a bike because I didn't think he would get me one, but HE DID!!!! I was surprised and excited. If we didn't have a white Christmas and icy roads in front of our house this year I would have taken her for a spin around the block. I can't wait to go for my first bike ride!!!

Isn't she pretty?! Currently taking name suggestions....

I already texted my coach about my gift and told him I want to do a triathlon in 2013. I think he already knew that I was interested in triathlons and even more so recently. Erika definitely helped to fuel my enthusiasm. I think that I am ready to join the crazy (but fun looking!) triathlon crowd in Spokane.

I am already thinking of two triathlons that I would like to register for this summer. The first one Matt also recommended to me, but they are both women only and great for beginners like me!

Valley Girl is insanely popular so I will probably have to wait until 2014 to register for it, but that is okay. :-)

Mr. Healthy Diva also got me a camel back water bottle (like this, but mine is pink), a polar heart rate monitor (like this, but mine is black), and a bike planet wireless computer.

I hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas with your families today.

    1. Thanks Katherine! I am glad that I am not the only one going to take the plunge this year. I felt like I was the only person in the world not training for a triathlon this last summer.

    1. Thanks Harmony- I felt so spoiled by Cameron! I used my heart rate monitor tonight and I really liked it. I am not sure how to gauge my heart rate and use it for training yet so I will need to do some research or talk to my coach. When I was done with my run it gave me a summary of my highest and average heart rate. I can see that once I learn how to fully utilize it that it will be a great training tool to have.

    1. Thanks Jennifer- I am excited, but need to find a triathlon to sign up for first. So far I am batting zero because the one is sold out and the other is the same weekend as a relay I am running. As soon as I have found one that works with my crazy life I can't wait to start training.

    1. 2013 is going to be the year of the triathlon Becky! I did just find out the Wonder Woman is the same weekend as Spokane to Sandpoint in August which is a huge bummer. Valley Girl sold out in a day so now I will have to find another triathlon to sign up for. I might actually sign up for one in Seattle!

  8. Merry Christmas! I love the bike! What a fun surprise - my gifties were also a surprise. I think the Wonder Women sounds cool, simply because of the name! Can't wait to read more about your adventures :)

    1. I know- doesn't it sound like a fun race?! Even Valley Girl looks and sounds fun. I think I would feel more comfortable competing against women in my first triathlon, but if it doesn't work out maybe I can at least get my coach to do it with me.
Have you used your new Garmin yet? I love that it is pink! So cute!

    1. Thanks Christy. It was an amazing Christmas! I thought that our tree turned great this year, but now I am dreading having to take it down. It takes forever to package away the ornaments. This was the first year we got a fake tree, but I think it looks pretty real. At least it does in the picture.

I probably wouldn't have fallen in love with biking so much if I could have run more over the summer. I became addicted to it since it was my only cardio option. If we lived closer I would get you addicted too!

  13. Tasha, I seriously am so excited for you! I love doing triathlons they are so much fun and such a challenge. It will be fun watching you grow in this new area for you and maybe we can do one together??? I wish you lived closer as it would be so fun to help you train on your bike! It is my absolute favorite discipline. Let me know you if you have any questions! Merry Christmas!!!

    1. Thanks Marnee! I haven't been this excited for a long time. I am ready to start training for a triathlon. I just need to work on the swimming part- I think I will have no problem with the biking or the run portion. There is a duathlon in Post Falls, ID in June that I want to register for. Still need to find a triathlon that will work with my training schedule. I would love to do a triathlon with you though. That would be a lot of fun!!!!! You are one of my inspirations!

  17. I never thought I would say it but doing a tri is on my bucket list for 2013 also. I know nothing about training for one so I'll have to follow along and pick up any pointers I can. I got a road bike this summer and can you believe that I haven't got out on the road with it? I'd like to but biking keeps taking a back seat to running.

    1. Carissa I always thought the same thing about triathlons until this last summer. I felt like I was the only one who wasn't training for one. When I couldn't run over the summer my only cardio option was the bike and I fell in love with it. I am excited to hear about your training and hope that you get the chance to take your bike out soon. :-)
