I registered for the St. George Marathon lottery on a complete whim last week. I really didn't think I would get in because I don't consider myself to be a lucky person at all. I never win anything, seriously. The actual lottery took place on Friday with email notifications going out on Monday. Since my day was so hectic playing catch up from being gone all weekend I sort of forgot about it. Just when I was getting to ready to head out the door for a run I noticed I had an email. The only thing I saw was "Lottery Results-CONGRATULATIONS". Needless to say I was ecstatic since I never thought in a million years I would get in. SGM is also a marathon on my bucket list so hopefully on 10.6.12 I will be able to cross it off!
Questions for you:
Did you get into the SGM this year?
Have you ever gotten into a race lottery on your first try?
Have you ever tried multiple times to get in a race through a lottery and been unsuccessful?

THIS IS SO EXCITING!!! I'm so excited for you, this is definitely on the "to do" list of life marathons. What % of the lottery gets in? You're going to rock it!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what % gets in. I know of a couple of people who have not gotten in after 2 attempts. That is why I never ever thought I would make the cut. SGM was the first marathon to go on my "bucket list". I think the field is limited to 7400 runners and if you live in SG you automatically get to run.
DeleteThe only race I have ever done that has a lottery is the Hood To Coast relay and my team is in. Congrats on getting in!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christy!! I am doing HTC too! Such a FUN race!
DeleteCongrats! That's supposed to be a great course!! So-- back to marathon training :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Raina. Unfortunately just because I got in doesn't mean I will run it. Technically I wouldn't start hard training until July, however, I really need to get my body healthy first. :-(
DeleteThat looks like the most beautiful and painful race in the history of the world.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! It is such an amazing feeling when you get in via lottery... like you truly won the lottery!! :) I've heard great things about that race. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats Tasha!! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! You're going to rock that race. :)
ReplyDeleteAhhhh congrats!!!! That's awesome :)
ReplyDeleteYAY!! I got ran it in 2008 and it was the first (and only) time I got in the lottery. Beautiful course (can be warm!! But wasn't when I ran it) and it was my first BQ race :). Stay at the Hilton (trust me, this is the Hilton in St. George, not LA ;), it's not over the top posh or anything), it is right next door to the expo and soooo convenient. You can get a shuttle to the buses in the morning, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat advice on the hotel Jill. I am going to get on that. I think we might make a trip out of it and drive to Vegas for a couple of days after. :-)
DeleteWoohoo congratssss!!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even realize this was a marathon that you had to do the lottery for, must be a good one.
Thanks!!! From what I have heard it is supposed to be a good marathon, but we shall see! :-)
DeleteSweet!! Congratulations!! I haven't heard of it till now but I'll look it up. If there is a lottery than it must be an awesome race!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!!
